History:
Description:
The Mason Creek road follows a narrow canyon between Hermit Peak and Black Mountain up Trouble Hill. After about 2.5 miles you will be on a broad plateau and there will be an intersection. The left road is the Mason Creek spur, 516.1A, which goes about two miles and ends at Grouse Creek on the east side of Finger Mesa.

The road to the right at the intersection is Black Mountain, FR 514, which goes to Black Mountain Lake. Mason Creek will continue straight ahead from the intersection. After about a third of a mile will be an intersection to the left. This is the Carson road, FR 518. About a half mile beyond the Carson intersection you will leave public lands where the private property around Castle Rock Lake starts.
